After an unexpected upgrade to v11.40 from v11.32 all backups are now very slow. Low throughput and observed 99% DDB lookup. Backups aren’t completing. One Auxiliary copy has a huge 22TB of data that needs to be copied to tape. All these issue appeared after the upgrade

Curious to hear how you ended-up with an unexpected upgrade. I assume you had automatic software download enabled and had the automatic software installation task still enabled. Anyhow it's not nice to hear that you are suffering performance issues. You did upgrade to the latest maintenance release? What is the load on your DDBs? Do you see high QI times?
