Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding Storage Accelerator for Dell Data Domain Boost Client libraries and the client-direct backup and restore functionality.

According to the official documentation, clients can back up and restore data directly to and from Data Domain without routing the data through a remote MediaAgent. However, the documentation also states that "Deduplication and Index Cache operation would continue to be processed by the MediaAgent."

So, Ccould the Index Cache operations be handled by the client instead, allowing client-direct backup and restore jobs to continue even when the MediaAgent is offline?

More specifically, does Commvault Storage Accelerator for Data Domain support completing backup and restore operations while the associated MediaAgent is offline, or is the MediaAgent still required for these operations to complete successfully, despite the client-direct data transfer?

I couldn't find any explicit clarification on this scenario in the official Commvault documentation.

Thank you in advance,
Nikos

Media Agent is always required, Deduplication for backups, plus IndexCache, Index Browse, and IndexRestore for restores.
