CommCell Assessment tool similar to VMware Health Analyzer

We provide several built-in and downloadable reports that collectively cover most aspects of a comprehensive CommCell environment assessment. While there is no single "all-in-one" report that covers every possible configuration and best practice area, you can leverage a combination of the following tools and reports to achieve a thorough assessment:
 

• Combine Reports: No single report covers every area, but using the below in combination provides a comprehensive assessment.
• Remediation Guidance: Most reports include direct links to documentation or workflows for remediation.
• Customization: You can download, customize, or build new reports from the Commvault Store to fit your specific needs.
• Regular Review: Schedule these reports to run regularly and review findings with your team.

1. CommCell Configuration Audit Report

• Purpose: Highlights CommCell settings that differ from Commvault’s recommended values.
• Coverage: Disk/tape library settings, storage policy/copy settings, media management, data aging, and more.
• How to Use:
  • Download from the Commvault Store.
  • View in Command Center (CC) or Cloud Services Portal.
  • Requires enabling Audit in Private Metrics Reporting.
• Recommendations: The report directly compares your settings to best practices and flags deviations.

2. Security Assessment Report

• Purpose: Assesses security parameters, including encryption, access controls, auditing, platform hardening, and more.
• Coverage:
  • Encryption (primary/auxiliary copies, client encryption)
  • Ransomware protection
  • DR backup configuration
  • User authentication, SSO, MFA
  • Security cleanup and unused entities
• How to Use:
  • Access via the Security Assessment tile in the Health Report.
  • Drill down for detailed recommendations and links to remediation steps.

3. Security Posture Score Report

• Purpose: Provides a scored overview of your security configuration, with actionable recommendations.
• Coverage:
  • Audit trail retention
  • Authentication/authorization controls
  • Hardening (e.g., admin shares, key management)
  • Security controls (encryption, compliance lock, ransomware protection)
• How to Use:
  • Access from the Security IQ Dashboard in Command Center.
  • Click on parameters for detailed guidance and remediation.
  
   

4. CommCell Readiness Report

• Purpose: Checks connectivity and readiness of all CommCell components (CommServe, MediaAgents, clients, storage, agents).
• Coverage:
  • Connection failures
  • Storage and configuration issues
  • DR readiness
• How to Use:
  • Available by default in Command Center and Web Console.
  
   

5. As Built Guide

• Purpose: Summarizes the configuration and setup of a new (or existing) CommCell environment.
• Coverage:
  • High-level overview of infrastructure, storage, and configuration.
• How to Use:
  • Available in Command Center.
  
   

6. CommcellConfiguration-Collect Workflow & Compare Report

• Purpose: Collects and compares configuration values across multiple servers/sites, highlighting mismatches from a defined baseline.
• How to Use:
  • Download and run the workflow from the Commvault Store.
  • Use the Commcell Configuration-Compare report to review findings.

7. Additional Reports

• Data Protection Readiness: Monitors backup health and readiness.
• Storage Utilization Report: Assesses storage usage and trends.
• DDB (Deduplication Database) Reports: Reviews deduplication health and configuration.
