Commvault DR option

Forum|alt.badge.img+5

Hey folks,

Thanks for reading. I need some help. I just need pointed in the right direction, but this time, I’m under the gun and don't have time to do research.

According to those in the know here, we have a virtual server that we use VMW Recover Point on to send a backup to another VM server at our DR location.

My question is, doesn’t Commvault do this? Can we just back up the VM and move it to the DR site? Does that question even make sense?

I’m pretty sure it can be done, I just don’t know where to start. Can someone be kind enough to point  me in the right direction? I feel like I am bouncing all over the place in the website and can’t find the right article to get started on.

Thanks for the help.

Is this what you’re looking for ?

Auto Recovery of Virtual Machines

Using Virtualization, you can configure virtual machines (VMs) or instances for replication to one or more secondary sites and configure recovery groups for Commvault Auto Recovery. Auto Recovery uses backups of primary VMs to create destination VMs and keeps destination VMs updated using continued incremental backups. Auto Recovery was formerly referred to as Disaster Recovery and Live Sync.

OK - just to make sure I am following:

You take a backup to Storage A and send that Backup to Storage B(DR location). Is that what you want to do?

Hey Ponte-Verda, thanks for replying.

Yeah...pretty much.

Use Commvault to replicate a couple times a day from ServerA on VCenterA to ServerB on VCenterB

ServerA is powered on and one of the production servers. ServerB is powered down, on a VCenter at another physical location, ready to be powered up and take over in the event of a disaster.

I think I’m making this way over complicated though...LOL
