Hi together,

In Veeam, there is a feature called "Secure Backup" which is a service for DRP audits (backups recoverability is tested).

Does anyone know this feature and can tell me if there is a similar function in CommVault?
I have not found one yet (Version 11.24.94).

thanks in advance for your answers and best regards

Hello @Pascal K

After reading some of their documentation it seems Disaster Recovery Plan, with “plan” apparently being literal in the sense that you have to come up with your own documentation “plan” for recovering from a disaster.

While Commvault has no direct equivalent, we do have documentation on how to recover from various disaster scenarios. Every real-life situation and scope of the disaster will have its own requirements, there are some general recovery operations for recovering the CommServe and its database as well as MediaAgents so restores can be started for affected clients. Depending on the type of client and the agent being backed up, the recovery process will be different, but the method will be the same, meaning that you would recover from the most recent full backup.

You can refer to the below documentation on CommServe failover, recovering the CommServe from a Disaster Recovery Backup, and recovering the MediaAgents.

If you have any questions about a specific scenario, let me know and I will try to answer to the best of my ability.

Thank you,

Hi Pascal

We do have similar functionality with application validation, dev test groups and virtual lab.

Application Validation for VMware VMs (commvault.com)

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/33034_dev_test_groups_overview.html

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/32345_restoring_as_virtual_lab_for_vmware.html

Thanks

@Pascal K We use the App Validation

Have done for years -

Its a great feature - and we use it for Audits and have the reports auto generate and stored away.

This was something done manually ‘many years ago’ - but now sits there and just runs

As always - CommVaults infinitely powerful - and we used some PowerSHell to enhance the function, by ‘randomly selecting’ a 2 VM’s from a List of 60 VM’s and validating those ‘2 VM’s

And we keep this rolling every day of the year - so over 12 months we have a full sample of our main VM’s ‘powering on’
