Hello Team,

We are planning to implement Commvault backup of File system data (approx. 95 TB) and will use disk library of HPE object storage bucket.

This is on-premises backup.

Please advise any best practice to use in object backed target library.

  • How many buckets to create from object storage will use in Commvault library.
  • How many disk library to use (in each bucket to use single disk library or many buckets to use single library)
  • Any ways to configure Data reader & writers limitation
  • Shall we use Dedup, Compression & encryption feature from commvault to use object based target.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately the answer to all those is - it depends, and this post doesn't have much details. But, I’d suggest keeping things simple - you can change these down the line if you need to.

  • How many buckets to create from object storage will use in Commvault library.
    • Single bucket should be fine unless the HPE device gets better performance writing to distinct buckets.
  • How many disk library to use (in each bucket to use single disk library or many buckets to use single library)
    • One should be OK
  • Any ways to configure Data reader & writers limitation
    • Yes, controls can be set at various levels - on the bucket, datapath, storage policy etc. You can find tune them as you go to maximize performance
  • Shall we use Dedup, Compression & encryption feature from commvault to use object based target.
    • Yes
