Commvault VM backup of Proxmox vm + PCI passthrough

Hello Commvault Community, 
 

Does Commvault support backup of Proxmox VMs with a GPU card connected as PCI pass-through?
 

There's no information in the Commvault documentation about whether it supports it or not, but the snapshot itself runs fine on the Proxmox side.
 

When we try backup through the Commvault system, there's a problem with taking the snapshot, and the log shows the following information:

--> FAILED                      Error creating virtual machine snapshot.  VM 103 qmp command 'savevm-start' failed - VM snapshot already started 

===

 

When backup runs through Commvault, there aren’t manually taken snapshots on the virtual machine.

We’re reliant upon the ProxMox Snapshot mechanism to be able to backup the VM consistently. Since the Snap with a PCI pass-through device is not possible, we would suggest implementing an Agent inside the VM and performing a FileSystem based backup in this instance.

I suspect the PCI pass through device is causing the issue with Snapshot here. - This is a common issue for most Hypervisors.
 

Have you tried setting the Application Group to “Crash Consistent” and confirming the results?

    Thanks for this suggestion.
     

    We've already tested it with the default setting and with Crash Consistent, with no changes – the same results in a snapshot creation error.
     

    Hence my question: does Commvault support such configurations? I know VMware also has this issue, but this is a scenario that's already been explored, but Proxmox is a new hypervisor, so I couldn't find any information in the Commvault documentation.
