Our Web Server has the Microsoft 365 apps version of Outlook installed to facilitate email previews and PST exports.

Recently, there were issues with exporting to PST, exports would work sometimes but not consistently. What appears to have fixed this issue is disabling auto-updates and then downgrading to 20228.20190 by running:

cd %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun\
OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.20228.20190

Now I’m running into an issue previewing emails in Compliance Search, which is also sporadic. The Error says 'Preview not available'. I did a test and when just using the default wildcard search, I selected an email, and saw the preview. I then performed a search, selected the SAME email, and it said 'Preview Not Available.

Is this also Outlook related? What version of Outlook are people running?

Hi @KurtLO ,

Good day!

Only the 64-bit versions are supported for mailbox, folder, and message export and preview.

Preview failures can occur if Outlook is not installed, is mismatched (32-bit vs 64-bit).

Preview works for emails found via wildcard search but fails for the same email when searched directly.

This can indicate an issue with the search engine, index, or how the preview API is called.

We recommend further investigation of the search/indexing path, including validation of preview generation and search-related components, to determine why the preview is unavailable only when the item is accessed through search.

We would request to raise a Support ticket for further investigation.
