Hi Team, Could you please help us with below queries for Data ingest in Commvault:

  • Is custom meta data written to cloud storage, is there a process to do so?
  • How to find out about below Data Stats

    • Average data size

    • Variance?

    • File types

    • Are objects ever updated? Are deltas used?

    • Various levels of DPL and impact to storage used?

Hello @Lahari

All Commvault data is written in a proprietary format. The same format is written to disk, tape, and cloud.

Average Data Size - You can check this in the job details with the Application Size. This is the amount of data backed up from the client under a specific job.

Variance - I am not sure what you are asking, but in the Job Details we have a Savings stat which tells you how much of the data was deduplicated.

File Types - This would depend on Agent the backup is for, but for say Filesystem, I do not believe we have metrics on what type of files were backed up. For lets say a SQL agent, only the SQL files are backed up.

Are objects ever updated? Are deltas used? - Files are modified with deduplication and micro-pruning

Various levels of DPL and impact to storage used? - Can you elaborate further on this question?

Thank you,
Collin
