Hi All, looking to get some feedback on the following scenario.
Currently have 4 media agents with 2.5TB local SSD dedicated for DDB. A while back we decided to move to the cloud and thus created a new storage pool (deduplication enable) so we would only move changed blocks from primary to the cloud. The new DDB location for the cloud pool is on the same disk as the existing DDB for on-prem data. At the time, the capacity was ok and so we moved forward.
Trying to make things easier to understand, I am adding the following screenshot;
As seen above all 4 MAs share DDBs for box Primary and Cloud and I am running out of space. We are purchasing additional drives with a higher capacity to address the problem and here is where my questions come in and would appreciate some feedback. I would prefer to avoid running new Fulls as a result of this tasks.
I wanted to see if the options below are the only ones available and which one carries less down time and risk;
- Adding new partition: this option would allow me to write data to a new added partition however my understanding is that it would run new baselines depending on job writing to the new partition. This option would make continue to use the current 2.5TB and use additional partition for data to continue to be written to. No issues, just observation.
- Add the new Larger Drive to Windows, configure as DDB1 and do a Move documented here. I would only move the Primary Copy DDB stores to the new Drive. This would completely separate dudep drives from Primary to GCP however I am not sure I am taking into account everything that is needed for this task. Documentation talks about a workflow related to a move from MA1 to MA2 and I assume that workflow would not be applied to my case.
- Completely replacing the 2.5TB Drives to larger drives. Expanding the current RAID1 would essentially allow me to rebuild / copy the existing data from the 2.5TB drives to the larger drives and once completed, I would have the lower capacity drives available to repurpose if needed. Have not seen anything in CV docs that supports or dont support this task so I assume it is valid.
I am between option 2 and 3. More like 3 considering I would have additional drives that could be used for something else in this MA.
I know it is a long post, but I wanted to reach out and gather some feedback, perhaps bling spots I need to consider and perhaps even additional options I have not added above.
