Question

Do Oracle DB restores supports multiple streams?

Hi,

I see that the stream count is defaulted to 2. But I also read the all restores are single streamed except for a few iDAs. And oracle iDA is not one of them.

Pedro

Hi @PedroRocha

As per this article: https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/92576_multi_stream_restore_operations.html

Oracle doesn’t support multiple stream restores:

Hopefully this helps,

Chris

Is this something that will be changing in the future or is there a feature request for multiple streams for Oracle iDA restores?

Hi,

I notice that changing the stream count to higher number caused RMAN to allocate and use more channels during the datafile restoration process.

What does that mean?

I notice though that archive log restore operation used only one channel.

Pedro

Hi

I am pretty sure you can run multiple channels with RMAN, but this depends whether you have Standard or Enterprise Edition of Oracle from memory - Standard only allows one channel

I looked at this many years ago, to speed up some Oracle backups / restore times which luckily had Enterprise Edition

You had to backup with multiple streams, to restore with multiple streams eg: 1 backup stream cannot be two restore streams!
