Does File Recovery Enabler for Linux require SSH in order to function? If not, is there a way to disable this? If this is by design then just looking for an explanation for why this is enabled.

Hi Ronni3,
Its not required for FREL to function but for user to check logs or troubleshoot any or detail interactively then they need and, can use SSH. you can stop and disable sshd.service using systemctl command.

Is the password assigned for SSH something controlled by CommVault or services within the CommServe? Just want to make sure this is secured and a weak password is not what is being used. I can clearly see the cipher is weak and if this is a possible security risk.

No, password for FREL machine’s root user is set by user(cv admin) part of deployment of FREL.
if its not successfully deployed then correct vApp properties to get it deployed correctly and use. Else if not using that client then plan for decommission and delete.
Perform the following additional steps in the vSphere Client:

Power off the VM that has the File Recovery Enabler installed.

Use Edit Settings to modify the properties of that VM.

On the vApp Options tab in the vSphere Web Client (or Options tab in the vSphere Client), correct the OVA properties.

Power on the OVA.
If the modified properties are correct, the OVA registration will be successful and that client will be set as a File Recovery Enabler for Linux.
