We want to double check how our commserve is set up - specifically, where its Microsoft SQL database is. Where can we find this information?

@ZachHeise

The Commserve Database is located on the Commserve Server, refer to: https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/4724_commserve_server_overview.html

“The CommServe server contains the Microsoft SQL metadata database that stores the CommCell environment members, settings, and managed data. Because a distributed, two-tiered indexing system for tracking managed data is used, the size of the metadata database is controlled.”

Hope this helps.

Thanks for confirming Chris. We are currently running SQL Server 2014, since we originally set up our commserve in 2018 and apparently, that is what our commvault partner recommended. Based on the ISV-R contract with Microsoft, commvault is able to bundle SQL Server 2019 into the installer itself - and so if we follow the instructions here - https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/142604_upgrading_microsoft_sql_server_editions_on_commserve_computer.html - including uninstalling our existing commserve software and also uninstalling SQL Server 2014, the commserve installer will put 2019 back onto our server?

Yes, CV will install SQL Server 2019 if there’s no SQL Server already installed.

You’re essential performing a “CS HW Refresh” (although keep the same HW):
