Constantly getting the error below on two HP UX boxes.

CvFwd.Log

582 0001 08/09 07:54:34 ######## ######## ERROR: cvfwd_get_refresh_socket(): Failed to bind refresh socket: Can't assign requested address

Job Error:

Error Code: [19:1304]
Description: Failed to connect to Communications Service to register the process.

They were originally both older Clients 11 SP 6. Went to upgrade to SP30 and now jobs stopped running. Check readiness runs fine but get error above and Filesystem and Oracle jobs will not run.

I have a One Way from Client to Commserve setup.

Hi @ShaneHicks

Whats the version of HP-Ux machine ?

Try the following

stop commvault services on the HP-UX machine (commvault stop)

check if there are any hung processes (ps -eaf | grep -i commvault)

Ensure there are no hung commvault processes

netstat - an | grep 8400 (verify if 8400 is listening for some other service and ensure its not used )

Start commvault services

retry the backup

Gowri Shankar

11.31 on HP UX.

Checked your recommendation.

All items are clear and nothing using the ports.

Hello @ShaneHicks

Was the upgrade successful? simpana status shows you the correct version? Also, the correct version is showed on the commcell?

If yes, can we please rebooting those clients once? If rebooting still gets the same issue, can we try re-installation of the packages?

Best,

Rajiv Singal

Everything looks correct. No issues in version in GUI or on client.

Unfortunately, client reboot is not possible to due to sensitive nature of the server. They only have one maintenance window a year.

Hello @ShaneHicks

You are communicating over Ipv4 with this machine or with Ipv6? If its Ipv4, can you try this additional setting on the client properties from commcell with value as 1 and restart the services on client?
https://documentation.commvault.com/additionalsetting/details?name=%22nPreferredIPFamily%22&id=532

Also, please check if date set is correct on both the clients.

Best,

Rajiv Singal

Tried that to no avail.

I see a lot of support cases relating to HPUX and this error that were fixed with:

“Name resolution for localhost has been corrected“

Can you check that localhost name resolution and ensure it looks right?

Hi Damian,

Yes, checked that earlier in the troubleshooting.

Hello @ShaneHicks

Can you check /var/log/messages and see if any OS related issue is coming up? Also, can you try to put the clients host file entry in /etc/hosts on the client itself in IP FQDN Shortname format and restart the services and see if that helps? Otherwise, please raise a support case with us for further investigation.

We do have a case opened with this. Reached out to community to see if this has been seen outside the support structure.

All of the items above look normal.

Hello,

Is there any resolution for this issue ?

We see the same behaviour in our environment. Many HP-UX platform clients are geeting the mentioned error.

Failed to bind refresh socket: Can't assign requested address.

Thanks

Hello @TNO

Were you able to follow the plan of actions shared on the above thread and still got the same issue?

The above issue seems to be environment specific however after following the same steps suggested above, if you are still facing the issue, please raise a case with us.

Best,

Rajiv Singal

No resolution as of yet. Escalated to Development.

The solution on our environment was to push  ‘repair software’ from the Commcell console using root credentials of each server.
