Dear Team,

We have recently deployed an IBM MSL3040 with an LTO-9 autoloader along with three tape drives.

  • Media Agent 1 is directly connected to the first two drives.

  • Media Agent 2 is directly connected to the third drive.
The environment was running on Commvault V11 SP32, and backup/restoration operations on all three drives were working fine.

Recently, we upgraded to Commvault V11 SP36, and after the upgrade, we are unable to use the only third drives for backup/restoration. rest 2 can use it for backup/restoration.
Do you have any idea why this issue is occurring?

Note: There is no SAN switch or zoning involved; all connections are direct-attached.

We request your immediate support on this matter and truly appreciate your efforts.

Regards,

Mani D

Hi @Manics.mca

Thanks for reaching out.

Is it possible to run a ScanSCSITool to check the which drives are currently available to the MediaAgent with the third drive and share the output

You may need to redetect and add library and drives to correct this issue.

Dear @Emils , Thanks for your update.

The media Agent 2 was validated and a secondary data path at the global policy level was added for Media agent 2. A restoration was then performed and during the index restore, the tape was successfully mounted on Drive 3. however, during the data recovery phase, below error getting.

“Drive in which media is mounted inaccessible from its drive controller”

Hi @Manics.mca

it could be that the restore is not triggered using a specific drivepool. Assuming that MediaAgent 2 & drive 3 combination is on a seperate drivepool.

You can retry this using:

  1. Begin any restore procedure. Refer to the Browse and Restore for step-by-step instructions.
  2. From the Restore Options dialog box, click on 'Advanced'.
  3. In the Advanced Restore Options, navigate to the 'Data Path' tab.
  4. Select the Drive Pool that you wish to use for the restore operation.
  5. Click 'OK' to proceed with the restore operation.

For more detailed information, you can refer to the Advanced Restore Options (Data Path) documentation.

Otherwise to ensure the Library slot assignments and MediaAgents slot assignments are in sync, you can run another detection or an exhaustive detection
