Planning to move set of server in current commcell to new commcell.

Commcell yet to build and AD creation in progress for independent environment.

After commcell provisioned How to start the migration from old comcell to new. We like to keep the long retention backup. Any new media agent need to build?

Hi @SureshPS ,

Good day!

You can configure commcell migration and achieve this.

Document for ref : https://documentation.commvault.com/11.40/commcell-console/commcell_migration_overview.html

Hi Suresh,

I went through the documents already.

Consideration is we have to keep long retention backup in old commcell. Since we can`t migrate.

Example:
I have 200 clients in old commcell with 5 media agents

Moving 80 clients with 2 media agents to new commcell . For reusing the 2 media agents should I need to keep the old DDB and index drives & old MA agent   and create new DDB drive and index cache drive and install MA agent pointing to new  MA for the new operations? So that we can restore any data in future right old commcell.

Please clarify?

Thanks,

Suresh

Hi @Sureshkumar S ,

During restore DDB is not required | Ony index is required.

Index will get reconstructed on the MA which you are using for browse. only requirement is it shoud have access to the library where the job lies

Oh. If aim creating a new virtual MA and give access to the library. That will be enough for the restoration purpose, right?

So, i can reuse all my 5 old MA for new environment.

Thanks,

Suresh
