I wanted to discuss the differences in system state backups between Windows and Linux.
Windows System State backups encompass a comprehensive set of system files, registry settings, and other critical components, ensuring a complete system restore.
Linux, adhering to the "everything is a file" philosophy, handles system components as files. This means that to achieve a similar level of system state backup, you need to back up specific files and directories, including:
- Configuration files (e.g., /etc)
- Package lists
- Boot loader configuration
- Kernel modules
- User data
While Linux doesn't have a direct equivalent to Windows System State, a strategic approach to backing up these essential components ensures a robust recovery process.
