Hi All,

 

we are running SP32 envoirmoemnt and want to migrate to SP40. We installed an new windws server 2022 and downloaded the cv sofwtare but we cant install the commserve componenente. We picked all in one commserve advanced but there are no commserve componnents. 

 

After the SQL Server installation we get the window wich commcell do you want to join but we picked create an new one.

One of my collueg means the fresh SP40 instalaltions are only possible under linux ???

Yes, net new 11.40 Commserve installations are linux only. 

In your case, please, install 11.32 Windows Commserve and then update to 11.40.

the question is what is now the best practis… 

 

jump from SP32 to SP36 with new windows and all the stuff and than update to SP40 to stay on windows or go the way with commvault and use only linux commserve

I’m not aware of any GA documentation covering changes to new setups in 11.40. 

Windows Comsmerves updated from previous Feature Releases are still under full support, so choose the OS you’re more familiar with, even if a small workaround is needed.

Strange as 11.40 documentation still list CS on Windows can be installed:

Issue: Fresh installation of SP40 on the latest Windows machine is failing

 

Work done:
- Checked internally and noticed

 

Starting with Release 40, we will only support Linux-based deployments of:

  • CommServe
  • WebServer
  • WebConsole

Windows-based deployments for these components will no longer be supported starting this release.

However, upgrades of existing Windows-based setups will still be allowed to ensure backward compatibility and smooth customer transition.

 

  • You will install the SP32/SP36 and perform the upgrade to SP40 and update the status.

I’ve been looking at this as well as I have a new deployment to do.  There was one screen in the readiverse training for 11.40 that said it was Linux only for new deployments.

 

Looking at the linux OVA from the store as a simpler method of deploying the CommServe (this is the 11.40.6 CIS L1 image). So far pretty happy with it.

When I tried the windows image it just BSOD on deployment it “could” have been because i’m running in VMware workstation in a lab though

 The only thing I can see is post first boot the cvlt initialisation service tries to auto-start, but from what I can tell it only needs to run that on first boot, so just disabling it post first boot seems to solve the problem.
