I need to protect data found on multiple CIFS shares, totaling about 40 Tb of data.

I currently have a backup schedule where i take a full backup monthly, and then incremental backups daily thereafter. The problem is that the full backup takes multiple days to complete.

Would it be recommended to take synthetic full backups monthly instead of the fulls?

What are the drawbacks of never taking another full backup and going with monthly synthetic fulls only?

Hi @hhwong_alaco

Running a Synthetic Full could be a possible solution here for you.

I think it would be wise to investigate the reason for the Full’s taking up so much time here. - There may be some tuneable parameters that might help decrease the duration depending on the config and the bottleneck. - for example: Quantity of Access Nodes and Streams.

Are all of the Subclients taking multiple days? Or just the larger ones? - Is the data distributed into multiple smaller subclients? (or could this be an option)

Best Regards,

Michael

Thank you @MichaelCapon

One of the shares is by far the largest. I will see about breaking up that share into smaller subclients.

What are the drawbacks to changing to “synthetic full”, instead of normal full?
