hi,

a customer of ours, wants to move off of all their office 2013 installation.

but the access node they use cannot be updated as per commvault documentation:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023/essential/93789_microsoft_outlook_requirements_for_exchange_mailbox_for_on_premises_exchange_servers.html

i know this had to do because of limitations with in the newer outlook versions.

but as Microsoft it self will stop support, i see this becoming a problem for multiple customers.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/announcements/office-2013-ends-support-one-year

can you let me know whether this is on the road map, or what commvaults solution will be for this?

kind regards,

Thos Gieskes.

@Thos Gieskes If you are running recent version of Exch you can leverage EWS and Outlook is not needed for backups only for restore to PST. If only using outlook for restore to pst any X64 version is supported. Note this applies to user mailbox backups only.

@Scott Reynolds

i might be misundestanding this.

but if we are running an older setup pre 25.

we would first need to enable EWS and stop using the older protocol.

and then you can stop using outlook 2013.

is that correct?

Yes that is correct. EWS does not leverage a MAPI connection and hence outlook is NOT required for backup only for restoring to a PST file. In which case ANY version (x64) can be installed

Hi All,

Any update from commvault on outlook 2013 dependency, documentation still says we should use outlook 2013.

Thanks.
