Hello all,

I have a virtual environment on VMware that I back up with Commvault. The first copy is stored on local storage, and the second copy is made to Azure Archive Blob combined with the Cool tier. For both copies, I have deduplication enabled. I have a question about the restore process when deduplication is enabled: will the restore process recall/rehydrate all data related to the deduplication database, or only the data related to the specific job I need to restore?

I have been looking for information in the community but could not find anything regarding deduplication enabled for the Archive tier.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @CarlosPerez ,

When restoring a VM with Commvault deduplication enabled, the restore process will only recall the specific, unique data blocks required for that particular restore job. It will not recall the entire DDB or all associated backup data. The CommServe server uses its internal metadata, not the DDB, to identify the data blocks it needs for the restore. Hence in restore process u can be able to recover specific data required for that particular restore job.
