Hi team,

Im facing an issue witg exchange 2019

Backup is running good no issue

But when i try to restore a database it failed with error vss writer error

I checked the vss writer no errors.

Checked event viewer log and found an event id 8194 access denied

I have added the network service user to COM security and rebooted the exchange server and performed the restore again i got the same error but the event viewer log hsa changed to id 4356

exchange, application, service VSS writer, failing restoring a backup.

Has anyone faced this issue before ?

It is a dark site and i couldnt get the logs.

@Mansour_Nour

Are you restoring directly back into exchange? If so, please ensure the source database is marked for overwrite.

Additionally, are you sure that event id matches the exact time the VSS or restore error is reported in our logs?

It’s description based on my google search doesn’t exactly help… you can share the event id details without compromising your dark site requirements (just exclude any information regarding server details, such as names/ips).

If you’re not sure what Commvault log to look at please let me know.

Regards.

Hi team,

Issue was related to service account privileges
