is there a way i could run a report to find out how much space a full monthly or yearly backup is taking up in terms of storage space requirements.

In Command Center run the “License Usage By Jobs” report. What is good about this report is that if you sort by “Job Start Time” you may see a number of old jobs consuming licenses, if these backups are no longer required you could look at releasing the license or disabling activity at subclient level and this will release the license space
