We are a law firm that is backing up our Sharepoint file storage sites. We are wondering if there is a way for us tobe able to search the backups for a file or folder once they are backed up.

Good morning. If you are on FR28, you should be able to transition SharePoint clients to using Content Indexing as seen here:
Once the data is indexed, you should be able to search it.
