Is there any way to set the Maximum Number of Restarts from Command Center?

Thanks and regards,

Hello Matias,

I assume this is to find the global job restart setting?

To find max number of job restarts global param setting in the Command Center follow these steps:

Open Command Center
In the left pane navigation menu find ‘Manage’ then click on ‘Commcell’
In the right pane the CommCell window will populate then find ‘Settings’ and click ‘add’
A window will pop up and in the text field type ‘maxRestart’
Set the values to your desired results.

Hello Ponte_Vedra,

It says the minimum value is 100, but I think the default is 10.  I don’t know if there is another setting.

Documentation points to Commcell Console, but it is disabled.

Thanks,

Matias

Hello Matias,

Reading from the screen capture I included maximum number for maxRestart value is 100 - not minimum.

In the commcell console setting restart values are found under Control Panel>Job Management>Job Restart tab. There is no equivalent that I can find for Job Management in Command Center other than Manage>Commcell>Settings being the location that contains global configurable options.

Here is a screen capture that shows Job Management>Job Restart tab in the CommCell Console - it appears the console allows you to set agent level granularity where the Command Center option is global for all agents. Also as you mentioned the default is 10 retries with a 20min interval between each retry. This appears to be the same value by default for all Job Type selections that I clicked through.

Other than the maxRestart key I cannot find any other location in Command Center that allows you to set # of job restart attempts. It seems CommVault has reduced the access to features through their HTML interface in favor of figuring out which settings keys to add…

I dont know if this is helpful but I also included a csv file that contains all settings key containing the word ‘restart’. possibly there is another key there that will be useful to you.

Actually - I found a second location where you can set maxRestart to be server/agent specific. Its under System>Settings in Command Center

Here you can choose to select the Global or specific Entity maxRestart value. Screen captures below:

System>Settings: Click Add

Set specific Entity:

Set Global/Commcell:

Hope this is useful

I think the Commcell console setting is the one I need, but Commcell console is not available in v11.36.

The options in Command Center allow values from 100 to 999, you can see in your images.  It seems to be other setting.

Thanks.

Matias

Curious - I am able to see the installer option for the CommCell Console from my software cache of 11.36.25

Is this not an option in a post update?

Here is an image of my software cache path

CommCell Console is not available by default on new installations of version 11.34 or higher, if you upgraded your Commvault you will be able to access Commcell console.

The problem is that some things like this, cannot be done by Command Center yet.

Well damn - im glad I jumped on this post.

What happens if I have a DR? I have to recover through that cumbersome POS Command Center? You can’t even install it on your commcell?

There has to be a regkey to flag the installer to allow Console install.

I wonder what genius thought that the Command Center was robust enough in its current state to replace the comcell console. I’m sure the conversation went something like this ‘lets stop allowing customers to install the Java GUI and we can focus on fixing their complaints by logging MR’s’

Meanwhile we all know CV isnt ever going to build in any features submitted as an MR unless its tied to a big money deal

Sorry to vent on your post - but im shocked how they are approaching this from a Roadmap perspective. The correct thing to do if you want to push new customers to Command Center is to have that be the default GUI when installing CommVault. Let the console just be another option where advanced/veteran users would select it manually.

Sorry but CommCell Console is available in 11.36 46 or higher. The restriction to use it has been removed.
