Hi All,

we have an very Big Sharepoint Farm on Prem. Actually we are using the Sharepoint Agent for documents and also for database.

No we are faceing 2 Problems:

  1. The logs on the sql server are not getting truncated
  2. the performance is very very bad

What is the risk when we only backup the Documents via the sharepoint agent and backup teh databse via sql server agent ?

Hi @SSchmidt,

It has been a while since I configured on-prem SharePoint environments but we used to perform backups of SharePoint Farm and Documents but also run SQL database backups. The Farm subclient backup does contain more than just the databases from the SQL client so you might stil want to protect the environment via that way.

Configuration Decision for SharePoint Server Agent

You can also specify the SQL client in the SharePoint Farm subclient. This can give a better performance of the Farm backup.

Creating a User-Defined Farm Subclient

Running a SQL backup will definitely allow you to let Commvault truncate the logs. Once this is done, you can shrink the log files of the SQL databases. This might already help with performance.
