Size of Application/Backup and Data Written Terminology Understanding

Forum|alt.badge.img+15

Hi there,

I would like to understand what is the diferrence between Size of Application, Size of Backup and Data Written.

Below there is my understanding so far, please make me correct if I am wrong.

Size of Backup - Total size of data that should be backed up (including Index files)

Data Written - Total size of data physically stored to the library/disk

Size of Application - found this definition “The original size of the data before compression”, then what is the difference between Size of Backup and Size of Application?

I would be grateful for your ideas.

Hey @drPhil !

Here’s a quick summary:

  • Size of Application is the scanned size of what we need to backup (before any dedupe, compression, etc.)  Basically Front end Terabytes.
  • Size of backup is what we need to actually back up including metadata
  • Data Written is how much is actually on media (so dedupe and compression factored in)

Let me know if that clarifies!
