Hi,

According to the documentation, version 11.40 of the agent can be installed on the CentOS 6 operating system. However, the documentation only mentions the PowerPC architecture.

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.40/software/end_of_life_deprecated_and_extended_support_for_platforms.html

Is this also supported for Intel processors? I noticed that x64 support is available for newer versions of CentOS.

Hi Mextrinsic,

In terms of of support, you may have some pushback if it comes to raising a case for an issue since it’s not officially documented, and as per the caveats on deprecated operating systems, updates will not be provided.

On the deprecated OS page, I can see that RHEL 6.x is listed as supported in 11.40. Since CentOS 6 and RHEL 6 are almost identical code bases, I believe installation should complete.

As per documentation:

If a third-party vendor discontinues support for a platform, that platform, as well as any products associated with it, is considered deprecated. While the product or platform may continue to be used on an "as-is" basis, the following caveats will apply:

  • Fixes/updates will not be provided.

  • No new features will be supported.

The Installation Package Version column indicates the Commvault installation package version that last supported the deprecated platform or application. To install any of the versions displayed in the Installation Package Version column, you must configure some additional settings on the CommServe and client computer. For more information, see Installing Clients with Deprecated Operating Systems or Applications.

If you require support in Version 11 for platforms not covered in the list on this page, contact us at deprecated@commvault.com, and we will assist in providing the backup solution for your environment. You can also provide feedback and suggestions for deprecated platforms by contacting us at deprecated@commvault.com.

Regards,

David

Hi David,

“On the deprecated OS page, I can see that RHEL 6.x is listed as supported in 11.40. Since CentOS 6 and RHEL 6 are almost identical code bases, I believe installation should complete.” - it’s on the list but only for PowerPC. The customer wants to install the package on the server with Intel processor.

Michael

No one tell the CISO we’re still running CentOS 6… 😇

Thanks,
Scott

Hi, @ddwyer, @Scott Moseman

I'm afraid it won't be possible to update the OS version because of the app. Installing version 11.40 of the agent seems risky. Maybe customer could use an agent older than version 11.32?

Michael
