Dear Commvault experts,

during the planned DR test scenario our tape library should be a part of the testing DR environment, that is in the completely isolated environment. Therefore, this library will be marked as offline in the existing backup production infrastucture.

My questions are: How can we ensure that the temporary test-DR CommServe can only read from the tapes and not write to them? Is it sufficient to disable the Scheduler and Data Aging features? Additionally, is it necessary to configure this tape library on the test-DR CommServe, or is it automatically recognized?

If you want to use the Tape Library on an Isolated network for DR Testing to only read the contents. You may disable the Schedule so no new jobs start and Disable Data Aging to avoid any further aging of the jobs during the DR testing.

Tape library should be associated with CommServe or any MediaAgent on DR Site or the library can be shared amongst CommServe or Multiple MediaAgents so that library is discovered.

Please ensure that the appropriate drivers for the devices are loaded and that the operating system is able to identify the devices.

  • For tape storage, do the following:

    • Set up a read-only MediaAgent in the standby CommServe host.

    • Configure a separate tape library in the standby CommServe host or partition an existing tape library.

    • Connect the library to the standby CommServe host using the read-only MediaAgent.

    • Export required tapes from the production CommServe host, and then import the tapes to the library in standby CommServe host.

Just a small clarification—what exactly is meant by the term “read-only MediaAgent”? Is it something specific, or does it simply refer to disabling Data Paths under the Storage Policy Copy or elsewhere?
