Hi Team,

We have had LiveSync in operation for some time, but have only been testing it with TEST failovers, not production.

We are now ready to move to a full, PRODUCTION failover, but to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible, I thought i would run this past the community.

Apart from the Commvault docco that we will be following:-

https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/planned_failovers.html

Is there anything else that we need to be aware of?
We are on SP36.

We would be looking to leave the failover in place for a few hours, so we are hoping this process is now mature enough to not cause us problems.  But if you had problems with it, it would be good to hear what happened.

Thanks

Hi @MountainGoat ,

You can follow the steps below to help ensure a smooth and successful failover process. Let us know, how it goes. Thank You!

1. Since you're currently on SP36, please confirm that both your Production and DR nodes are running at the latest MR36.65 or later. Additionally, ensure the OS, Commvault software, and SQL versions are identical on both nodes.
2. Verify that the HistoryDB is also included in the Live Sync schedule along with other CVDBs and is being replicated to the DR node.
3. Make sure the Commvault Base directory is added to the system’s environment variable path on both nodes.
4. Prior to initiating a production failover, take a full backup of the CvFailoverLogShipping subclient and ensure a complete site replication is performed.
5. You can perform a test failover and failback before proceeding with a production failover. This helps confirm that the CommServe services can successfully start on the DR node.
6. If any scheduled Log Shipping backups are in progress, wait for them to complete before initiating the Production failover. This will help prevent conflicts with the backup schedule. Once the failover process begins, wait for it to finish and make sure to acknowledge the completion message—otherwise, Commvault may continue to assume that the failover is still in progress.
