Upgrading CV with OS and SQL Version. NO Hardware refresh

Looking to upgrade Commvault with inplace OS Upgrade as well as upgrading MSSQL install during CV Upgrade.

The Order of operation i have come up with is:

  1. Upgrade Windows Server from 2012R2 to 2019 (inplace) following docs provided here: Performing a Seamless Upgrade on a CommServe Computer (commvault.com)
  2. Upgrade MSSQL and CV (from SP16 to 11.24/2022E then to 11.32 (LTS). 

Questions I have: 

  1. Are Windows Server 2019 and SP16 compatible?
  2. Can I do an inplace upgrade of CV and MSSQL at the same time?
  3. Will Components such as the Webserver, Mail Archive Server and Media Agents (on seperate Servers running SP16) still work with the CS being on 11.24/11.32?

 

Happy to hear any advice on this.

You can upgrade MSSQL to 2019 first and then upgrade to FR32.

You can upgrade MSSQL to 2019 first and then upgrade to FR32.

@Sebastien Merluzzi could you provide Documentation for that? 

The only Doc on how to upgrade SQL (Upgrading Microsoft SQL Server Editions on the CommServe Computer (commvault.com)) requires reinstallation of CommVault.

I would plan on uninstalling the SP16 Version we´re currently running on and the installing 2022E. The mentioned doc doesn´t explicitly say, this is possible. It only mentions upgrading SQL with that process. Could you confirm it´s possibl to upgrade both CV and MSSQL Version using the steps provided in the above doc?
