On the same system, is it possible to deploy both a virtual agent and a file system agent?

We want to backup only the VM level status of the server, but their file system will be backed up separately due to the fact that the server system files are too large (12TB in size) and it takes too long to restore if the server is backed up with only the virtual server agent.

Yes, it’s possible and very common.

For example, you will want to add filters to exclude the large disk as per: https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/32186_defining_filters_for_content_with_vmware.html

Then deploy the file system agent: https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/18391_getting_started_with_windows_file_system_agent.html

And configure it to protect the disk(s) you have excluded from the VSA configuration.

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/18481_content_filters_for_windows_file_system_agent.html

Let me know if any other questions.

Regards,

Chris
