Hello,

I need to understand following for customer requirement of backing up their Virtual Machines running on VMware Esxi  on-premise datacenter, on to the AWS S3 storage:

  1. Does Commvault Backup and Recovery support backup of VM snapshots / images directly on S3?.
  2. If yes, Does it compress backup data before sending it to S3?.
  3. If not, than is there an option like AWS EBS or only file system level backup supported?.
  4. What is the normal compression ratio one can estimate upon enabling the compression?.

Appreciate your help.

Regards

Pranav

Hi Pranav,

see below:

  1. Yes, this is supported.
  2. The data is compressed, deduplication and encrypted on the access/proxy node.
  3. Both AWS EBS backups through snapshot/backup copy and FS backup are also supported and following the same efficiency.
  4. That is difficult to say as it depends on the agent type and/or data layout.
