Hi All,

 

we are running 11.28.97 now we have 2 servers with windows file agent and we are getting vss problems:

 

RROR CODE E17:176]: Failed to create VSS snapshot required to run system state backup. System state backup is skipped. VSS error r 0x80004005 2147500037] Unbekannter Fehler]. Please refer VSS Event logs for more details.

 

After reboot the backup runs fine maybe 1 day maybe 3 days its different. 

 

When we check the vss writer and provider status it looks fine. Also the windows eventlog did not show any problems.

 

i also checked the hotfix lists without any hint.

I know you are rather familiar with the KB https://kb.commvault.com/article/75930 as you mentioned the vssadmin. If you face the issue, before rebooting, please run vssadmin list writers (in elevated prompt) and confirm.

The more detailed information can be obtained from diskshadow command (run in elevated prompt):

diskshadow /l c:\temp\vss_tb_diskshadow.txt

Then paste the below into diskshadow prompt at once and press enter

list writers
list writers status
list writers metadata
list writers detailed
list providers
exit

The output file is the source of investigation.
