Hi Team,

we found a process named CvFanDmSVC installed and running in commvault base directory, but we couldn’ t find any information about this process. This process ran even though the backup wasn't running. Why does it run, and what is its purpose?

Hi @0ber0n ,

Good day!

There will be multiple executable present under base folder once you install File system agent.

is this process causing any issue or you are just interested to know what it does?

Regards,

Hi @Sureshkumar S

We are conducting an investigation and observed that this process was running. During that time, the process was showing the highest CPU usage, so our Security Teams want to know what the process does and why it's running.

Hi @0ber0n

CvFanDmSvc is Commvault’s Linux fanotify-based file data management / stub recall service. This will be part of default FS install. It is expected to use resources during backup/Archive or recalls. If you see any abnormality and impacting server performance, please ensure the data backup/archive operation is scheduled during less busier time. If needing further analysis, please open a ticket with us for deep dive.
