Why am I receiving the error “18:165 Oracle Database is down. Current Database status = SHUTDOWN’ during my Oracle backups?

Oracle backups can fail due to a number of reasons.

This particular error indicates, the backup fails because it detects that the database is offline. Here are some things to check: 

1. Check that the Oracle database in the backup content is online 

2. Check with your DBA to confirm database status 

3. Confirm network connectivity is active and consistent 

4. Run a Check Readiness to the Client 

5. Confirm the Required Ports are open 

Once the database is online and/or network connectivity is established, resume the backup.
