Hi All,

Any best practices from Commvault for backing up RODC server?

  • Backup as VSA with app-ware option
  • Usual FSA and AD agent level backup
  • No backup

I didn’t find any documentation on this.
So, I am looking for suggestion on the same.

Thanks.

Sudeep

The question is what are you trying to accomplish with a backup with a RODC?

I would backup the DC with the FSMO roles looking from a DR perspective. Saves you a lot of actions to get the AD up and running 🙂

VM backup should be fine, as long as it is backed up in a consistent state.

Thanks for your response @Jos Meijer.

Customer just had a query on the best practice for RODC backup if any or no backup.
I will update the same to Customer and see if this helps.

Thanks.

We do not backup RODCs as long as that is their only role.  On occasion we will have an RODC which also holds a file server role for a very small location and we just use a file system agent on those but don’t worry about the rest of the system.  We figure if that RODC goes belly up, we can just recover the data to a different server somewhere to give them access until we can rebuild the VM.
