Hi all,

We have a Server with Commserver and MA installed on it and I want to renewal on a new server. The MA have a local Disk Library of some TB of backups. I’ve refered the commvault documentation of Commserver Hardware Refresh but  I still haven't understood how migrate local disk library data to new hardware. Could any help me with some ideas how do this migration?

Actual server has local disks in RAID 5 (disk library), that here are my backups.

New server has local disk in RAID 5, to received that migration.

Regards!

Hi @M Torres,

You can move a mount path from one device location to a new device location on the same MediaAgent or another MediaAgent. The destination path can be a local path or a network path.

Please refer to the below document,

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/moving_mount_path_to_new_location.html

Regards,

Wasim

Hello Wasim,

I need to replace Commserver with same IP address and name on new hardware. Readed it the document, I list below how I understand:

1.-I need Install first MA on new hardware and register like new one on actual Commserver
2.- Proceed with data migration  moving data path from actual Media Agent to new Media Agent

3.- Execute a DR backup on actual Commserver, move it on new hardware.

4.- Shut down services and power off the actual Commserver

5.- Change IP addres/name on the new Hardware by the old Commserver

6.- Install Commserver and restore DR Backup on new Hardware.

7.- Test

It’s correct?

Thanks for your help

Hello Amey,

No, MA and Commserver are installed both on same physical server.

Hello Torres,

Were you able to complete the task successfully?

I am also into same situation and my data size is also huge ( 10TB+)

I thought that I may need to copyu data manually fom old server to new and then use move data path option ( i was under impression that this option just moves metadata and not actual files).

Hello Yogesh

Yes, I perform a copy of backup data (local disk library) with Robocopy tool, but you don’t perform any backup tasks or suspend any jobs that are running before start these copy and disable all Job activity on Activity Control from Commcell Properties.

The migration and hardware renewal were successful

Don’t forget also move the DDB
