We are currently using Configuration policies for Exchange online. It ignores the Retention time of the storage policy.
I want to start using the retention settings of the Storage policy again.   Is there a reason that you would use Configuration Policies for Exchange? Can you not just use te retention time of a plan or storage policy?

Hi @Cyber_backup

Good day!

Exchange Online and other Microsoft 365 workloads do not use the retention settings of the storage policy. Instead, retention is governed by the configuration policies (such as Office 365 Plans or Exchange Mailbox Plans), not by the storage policy retention. This is by design and cannot be changed for these workloads.

For Exchange Online backups in Commvault, retention is governed by the Exchange plan or Office 365 plan, not by the storage policy retention settings.

Storage policy retention does not apply to Exchange Online or Office 365 agents.

This is by design:

The Exchange Mailbox Agent uses the retention rules that are defined in the Exchange retention policy. The agent does not use the retention rules that are defined in the storage policy.
