We will be adding a new VMWARE Envrioment V8 to our Commvault backup; we use Intellisnap backups at the moment, however, in V8 we are using Datastore Clusters; how does that impact Intellinsnap and would the process be same

  1. Adding Storge snapshot engine to Commvault
  2. Setup Subclient and use the snap engine

however, would there be impact if say due to storage DRS a VM moves from one datastore to another. I have seen with Intellisnap (Nutanix) if you have a VM in 2 Datastore it fails the whole job; yet to runinto this senario with pure but how would this work?

Hi Rajeev,

Datastores are a logical entity, being clustered should not matter unless the VMs cannot be snapped with a hardware snapshot.

The process would be the exact same as from a Commvault perspective, it is just a hardware snap request.

DRS is usually only problematic if a backup runs during migration or a specific content rule would exclude VMs if they move datastores. If content is defined by the VMs themselves and they are residing on wholly different storage this may cause issues as well.

If, however, you are just protecting each datastore in its entirety and backups don’t coincide with DRS migrations you shouldn’t have any issues.
