My goal is to install Commvault on a standalone server and back up the server's own data to tape.

During the installation, under Server Information, when I enter IP:8403, I receive the following error:

"The server is not running on the remote computer."

This is the first-time installation of Commvault on this server, and it will be configured as both the CommServe and MediaAgent.

Hi,
Commvault is a client-server program; there is no standalone version. In the second screen, you'll need to specify the Commcell Console, which is the brains of the Commvault solution.
If you don't have it, you can't do anything.

I want commavult install on server10 and backup itself to tape. I mean conserve and media agent is on server10. but when I install this step is difficult for next step.

Hi @Mon Myat ,

Based on the details provided, I understand that your requirement is to perform a new setup where you install the Commvault components and back up the CommServe machine data to tape.

To achieve this, the recommended approach is as follows:

  1. Initial Installation

    • Install the CommServe and MediaAgent components as part of the standard setup.
  2. Backing up the CommServe Machine

    • The CommServe Database is already protected by default and backed up to multiple locations, primarily for disaster recovery purposes.
    • However, if there is a requirement to back up the CommServe host (file system/system state), this needs to be configured separately.
  3. Secondary Agent Installation

    • Install the File System (or required) agent on the CommServe machine as a secondary instance.
    • This requires adding the below registry key to allow a secondary installation on the CommServe host.
  4. Instance Configuration

    • Register the second instance (Instance 2) by specifying the CommServe hostname as the gateway name.
    • Once registered, add the CommServe machine as a client under this instance.
  5. Backup Configuration.

    • Configure the appropriate subclients and backup policies.
    • Set up the storage policy pointing to tape.
    • Schedule and run backups as required.

  • The bAllowMultiInstances registry key must exist on the CommServe server.  from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GalaxyInstallerFlags\bAllowMultiInstances.
