Hello to all!

In case of jobs replication (secondary copy), I see that these 2 options are available: Auxiliary copy & Dash copy.

Whats the pros and cons of each?

Dash copy is for deduplicated data (with Commvault dedup engine) and the Auxiliary copy for the rest “transitional data” / jobs?

Lets share your thoughts.

Nikos

Hi @Nikos.Kyrm

Both are an auxiliary copy, but by enabling DASH you can reduce network traffic to send only unique blocks if deduplication has been used.

Quote:

“Deduplication provides an efficient method to transmit and store data by identifying and eliminating duplicate blocks of data during backups. An Auxiliary copy job uses DASH (Deduplication Accelerate Streaming Hash) copy, which is an option for a deduplication-enabled storage policy copy, to send only unique data to that copy. DASH copy uses network bandwidth efficiently and minimizes the use of storage resources.”

Hi @Jos Meijer ,  thanks or your reply!

So, in case of Dash copy, you must have a Commvault deduplication database, right?

Can DASH copy works if you have a Disk Storage (with deduplication) as a source, and a Azure Blob storage as destination ?

Best regards,
Nikos

@Nikos.Kyrm Correct in case of DASH you need a deduplication database.

As for dash copy to Azure Blob, yes this is supported.
All Azure storage solutions shown here are able to facilitate deduplication and therefor DASH.

As long as the target location is part of a storage pool (library + (global) deduplication).
