Dear Support Team,

Kindly be informed that we are currently experiencing a backup error. Some of the servers are not completing the backup process successfully.

Could you please investigate this issue and provide your support and advice on how to resolve it?

Your prompt assistance would be highly appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

Hi,

please have a look at the description here.

It could be due the number of existing snapshots/checkpoints. - How to merge Hyper-V Checkpoints and why - A complete guide

Hi @Perwez Ahmed

The failure is due to too many unconsolidated disks attached to the virtual machine.

  • Hyper-V has leftover checkpoint / differencing disk files that were not merged or cleaned up.
  • This can happen when backups or checkpoint deletion do not complete correctly.
  • The issue can leave orphaned .avhdx files and prevent further backups until it is corrected.

Next steps

===========

  • On the Hyper-V host, check Hyper-V-VMMS Admin events, especially:
    19070: disk merge started
    19080: disk merge completed successfully
  • Engage the Hyper-V team or Microsoft support and manually remove or merge the problematic checkpoints/differencing disks. Refer the article shared by @Lukas3D as a reference.

Regards,

Kalaivanan.
