I have purchased an HPE StoreEasy 1660 device for on-site storage of our Commvault backups.  As I am working through setting this device up, a number of questions have come up which got me wondering if there is a “best practice” to follow so I can get this in an optimal configuration for Commvault backup storage.

  1. I am setting up a RAID 6 array.  The device is running Windows Server 2019.  What allocation unit size would be best?
  2. I have the ability to join this device to our domain.  Are we in a more secure position if I don’t join it to the AD domain?  I’ve got ransomware risks on my mind.
  3. Any other suggestions?
