Hello,

We have Commvault server, simpana version 11.28.68.

We have situation that we want to keep the old backup whose retention expires soon. Also we disabled the schedule policy for this specific subclient.
Is it recommended that we disable Data Aging for this Storage policy?

If we disable Data aging for this Storage policy, backup jobs should not be deleted regardless of  exceeded retention?

Best regards,
Elizabeta

hi,

if you view the job on your storage policy copy then select the jobs you want to extend retention on.

Next right click and select retain job and you will get this option which will all you to change retention

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. But, we want to keep more backup jobs.

Do you recommended us disable Data Aging for this Storage policy?

Hello @elizabeta ,

I think the best idea is select jobs which You would like to extend retention. If You remove Storage Policy Copy from Data Aging and forgot about jobs so, them will be kept in the system forever, which I don’t think it is your need.

But the Jobs retention can be changed for more than one in one setting configuration. As on the screen below:

The Manual Retention will overwrite retention jobs all assigned jobs.

There are different options here;

  • Manually retain the relevant jobs for longer as other have already said
  • Explore the configuration of Extended Retention for the Storage Policy Copy
  • Create a new Aux Copy for the Storage Policy and copy the relevant jobs over with different retention for the aux copy.

Disabling Data Aging for the Storage Policy might be another solution, but I would say it will be the worst of them all since it will force you to keep all jobs in the Storage Policy and not only the ones you want

Hello,

Thank you @Javier for your help!

However, we decided to turn off Data aging only for this Storage policy because we currently need all the backups from before.

Also, we must not forget to enable Data aging again.

Thank you all!

Best regards,
Elizabeta
