Storage and Deduplication

We have CV 11 .24.56 and using Dedupe.  We already have this Disk Library setup and were using 60% of the library but now we wanted to add another mount path and use the other 40% because no one ever used the storage space!  I cannot send screenshots so I will try to explain. We have a Primary site (Pri-1) and an Alternate site (Alt-1) and Commvault copies the data to the Pri-1 Disk Library and then we do a Dash Copy of the data to the Alt-1 Disk Library so we have 2 online disk libraries one at each site and the libraries each have their on Folder or Mount Path and we have Global Dedupe policies one setup for the Pri-1 Library and another Global Dedupe setup for Alt-1 Library. (This is how it was setup by installer).   My issue is that when I went to add the extra storage I was able to add the storage as a new Disk Library with a new Mount path successfully.  The libraries show up in Commvault as Alt-2 and Pri-2 under the library.  I then was able to add this second

We initiated a move a mount path operation on our cmvlt environment,but it seems that is stuck somehow .There is no other jobs running in that moment for this media agent.Also we can see that   all the data seems to be already copied.We see Estimated Total Data Size:1.65 TBSize of Data Copied:1:65 TBare the same It is like this for 1 day and some hours 

Hi Community , Does Enabling Ransomware Protection on a windows MediaAgent CV feature make my disk library and backup copies immutable ? Do we also need WORM enabled primary or secondary copies even after enabling this CV native feature for full proof ransomware protection ? If yes , what is the use of ransomware protection feature ?Regards, Mohit

Hi, We are configuring a Cloud Library as the Export Destination for Disaster Recovery (DR) Backups.So whenever we take a DR Backup, the metadata is exported to our Cloud Library.However, the CommServe has no direct access to the Cloud Library, it must connect to the cloud storage through a proxy server as explained below:https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/9171_setting_up_proxy_server_to_access_cloud_storage_library.html I am wondering which port should we use in step “8”, because using random port number doesn’t work.Do you have any idea? Best Regards 

I have an Auxcopy Source (HYperscale-X), destination (Hy7perscale). I have max numbers of readers set and multiple mount paths set on the Copy. I have thousands of jobs in the Auxcopy, yet only one stream gets allocated. What am I missing?

HelloIf I replace the PTL drive set to Control path among the drives in the PTL Library configured in Commvault, do I have to re-configure the PTL Library in Commvault?

I’m having problems with DDBBackup jobs at my DR site.  I changed the configuration from every 6 hours to once per day but the backup from yesterday is still running and I’m at the 22 hour point.  I’d like to kill this job and let a fresh one start but I understand that the DDBBackup uses snapshots and I’m afraid that if I kill it there won’t be a proper snapshot cleanup.  Is it OK to kill a DDBBackup job that’s been running almost a long time?Ken

Afternoon folksI have an auxiliary copy that backs up to tape - I have deleted all of the existing jobs on the tape media with the hope of starting the backup chain from scratch. However, since deleting the backup jobs, if I go back to the storage policy and right click on the tape auxiliary copy and view “media not copied” it is blank. I was expecting to see all backup jobs for the backup period that I have selected.Is it possible for me to “restart the schedule” so to speak without deleting the auxiliary job? TIA

  When following the document on how to stop/start a Hyperscale X appliance node https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/133467_stopping_and_starting_hyperscale_x_appliance_node.html I get to the step unmount the CDS vdisk, and after getting the proper vdisk name and running the cmd# umount /ws/hedvig/<vdiskname>i get the message ‘device is busy’.What’s the proper way to remediate this and continue?ThanksG 

 We do see aux copy completed with error because of skipped jobs But we dont see the job id gui  not even in the logs. is there any way to see the job when it say job is skipped ?    

We have a storage policy with aux copies that was sending disk backups to a tape library. The library in question that contained all these tapes has been decommissioned. A new library was stood up and all tapes were put into this new tape library. However the aux copy that represents this data belonged to a different media server and physical library. We are trying to figure out how to take the data sent to the AUX copy in the old storage policy and move it to a new Cloudian array that has been configured as a Cloud library.

Do aux copies start after the backup copy time retention time was reached. Or do Aux copies start at the same start as the backup copy but just to a different location? I am aware Selective only does Full  and Synchronize does Incremental and Full

How can I confirm how many blocks a DDB data verification job processed after it is finished?We have a scheduled policy to check data consistency with the following options. It seems to me that the job is processing all single blocks.

Greetings!I’ve been involved in backups for quite a while, but have mercifully been using drives ~ not tapes.  I’m now having to consider tapes.  We have multiple SLAs, including:A monthly full backup to tape, retention to 62 days, lasts 1 month only A monthly full backup to tape, retention of 365 days - so 12 tape backups  A quarterly full backup to tape, retention of 365 days - so 4 tape backupsThe last full backup of the month goes to tape.  So, I forsee a single tape (or a group of tapes with a mess of… ) consisting of 1 month + 12 month retention times.  Some of these tapes will have jobs that last a year as well as jobs that expired months earlier.  What is everyone’s experience with such a thing?  We have over 750 servers involved here.  CV has but one tape drive currently and an operations group to rotate tapes.   Thank you in advance for any experience you can lend me…  Mike

Good afternoon,I wanted to check with the community before generating a case with support, regarding the number of outstanding prunable blocks. On a library, which has started to increase 1TB per day, we have applied a 'run space reclamation' and have recovered 30TB of 65TB it had in size. Although this library has only 6TB in use. It is strange. We are seeing a large number of outstanding prunable blocks but performing the 'run space reclamation' does not remove them.     

I am in the process of moving all our data from tape to a disk library and need to estimate how long this will take. Has anyone come up with a reasonably accurate way of predicting how long Aux copying data for a given copy would take.I have 6 x Tape Drives in a library. This has been used a a target for multiple Auxcopy operations for multiple Storage Policies. Due to tape contention a multiplexed multi stream Auxcopy for a Storage Policy copy could be written to 1 to 4 drives depending on drive availability. I am also interested to know how this works. When the operation began it copied the oldest data first , but as time went on the completed and partially copied data began to appear throughout the timeline. Is there away to make the most recent data copy first? Does an Auxcopy operation begin copying all jobs on a given mounted piece of media, or does it only copy some jobs and will have to mount that tape later. 

Hello,I created Oracle database full backup subclient every day at 2:00 AM and Oracle archive log full backup subclient every hour. Both data and archive log use same storage policy At storage policy level I created auxiliary copy with selective copy all fulls. But when I checked the jobs inside this auxiliary copy I can find oracle data full backups only and it is not contain the archive log backup jobs. The storage policy primary contain all data and archive logs jobs

Hello Every one,Our current storage is almost out of space, so we want to move all of the backup data to a new Storage.we are thinking of the following:- Create new Disk library contains mount paths of the new storage.- Move the mount path from old mount paths to the new mount paths.- Change the storage policy data path to the new mount path.The reason behind we thought of using moving mount path method, because using Aux copy method would require to stop current backup jobs while moving the mount path doesn’t require that.what is your advice about this approach

Hi All, we had an internal discussion for new customers what Library is the best way. Often we are running Windows Cluster withs csv volumes or windows filecluster or single servers with san attached storage.  In the past there are a lot of problems with the ransomware on CSV an Filecluster.  Do you have some more information wich way should be good or better to prevent redirected I/O in cluster and also errors during maintanance ?  Also is there any possibility to check if the ransomware protection is working on a CSV / Windows file cluster ? Sure the option is set but did we had an option to test if its working ? 

Commvault 11.18 (soon to be 11.20).    - We are on the cusp of eliminating our secondary backups to tape.   The benefit of a secondary copy on tape was the build-in air-gapping (and ability to move it offsite for safe-keeping).    We plan to move to creating our secondary copies on disk in a different city.   Commvault’s built-in Ransomware protection is  no-brainer, but WHAT ABOUT WORM?    What are the implications of the WORM storage on space consumption?   Is there any scenario in which a WORM-enabled deduplicated secondary copy that is a true copy of the deduplicated primary copy (and with the same retention) would be any LARGER than the primary copy?   Presumably, if a 1000 jobs share one block on the secondary storage, that block will not be removed until the last of those 1000 jobs ages out.Any info is appreciated.   Thanks!

Looking to start a replication group from a VM and default backupset to a mount path on a dell powerscale. Going forward this volume will be san hosted instead of mounted via a server. Upon looking at the config- i dont see an option. Im away replication groups are agent to agent. I thought about makign a library with the location- but even that doenst allow.
