Hello Community ,

Did anyone implemented or have an idea how to implement offline backup copy in Commvault ?

Backup is being written to commodity servers with local storage attached .

The goal is that once backup job or aux copy  is completed , the target media agent should go offline and it should come online automatically during recovery request or next backup/aux copy schedule .

By any workflow or cv feature can we control power ON or power DOWN of media agent ?

What are the best practices or procedure to implement offline backup copy .

Regards, Mohit

@Mohit Chordia , not exactly what you are looking for, though we DO have Power Management for Cloud Media Agents:

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.26/essential/101313_cloud_mediaagent_power_management.html

If this is a possible consideration for you.

It also supports vCenter so that is a good option too for an on-premises solution. But this feature is exactly what you are looking for.

@Mike Struening @Damian Andre

Our media agents are physical servers present in on-premises data center . Power management of cloud media agents will not help me .

I need some solution for offline backups when media agent is physically present in data-center .

Can we create some workflows or automation through CommVault which will power off the physical media agent once aux copy is completed and power on it back during recovery request or just before next aux copy schedule ?

@Mohit Chordia , short answer is: most likely yes, long answer is: It would likely be big and complex (and beyond my skills).

Do you have any of the Workflow created and need some help, or do you need it created?  For the latter, I would contact your Account Rep, for the former, let us know what issues you are running into.

Tagging in @Chris Sunderland in advance.
