We have the Only Backup Files created or modified on and after option setup for a few servers.  One of our servers is very large video images from our camera system.  It takes up a large amount of our CV Capacity license.  After 90 days we no longer care about files older than that.  I have the Only Backup Files setting set to 90 days from the current date.  The problem is I would need to go in and change that every day to stop it from backing up those older files.  I understand that its not really backing them up however it does count towards our capacity which is very high and we are trying to trim the fat.  My question is can I somehow set that to a date that is always 90 days from the current date when it goes to back up that server each night, or do I have to go in every day and update that date manually?  Thanks for any help.

Hello @Heath

I think a better solution here is to create a folder on the server that is excluded by Commvault's backup and then have a script based on created time/modified time to move items over X age into that folder.

Trying to do it inside of CV is going to be hard as all the settings are broad strokes and you are asking for a very targeted feature.

Kind regards

Albert Williams

@Heath - The description is a bit vague. Can you please explain with some screenshots? Are you using backups or archiving solution?

Is the requirement to delete the file automatically after 90 days from creation / modified timestamp?

Thanks,

Sparsh

@Albert Williams  THat is the way we used to do it, onto a different server.  It was working ok for a bit but then the copying of the files broke due to some patches or security updates and we have been unable to do it that way since.

@SparshGupta  We don't delete off the server, they want them to stay on that server.

It sounds like I may need to talk them into using a separate backup for the cameras themselves with the company that sold us the cameras or each week I will have to update the don’ backup older than setting.  Thanks for the suggestions, maybe something will pop up that will work.
