Question

QNAP backup via CIFS

Hello everyone,
I'm here to ask for your help.
I have a QNAP with about 400 shares (the NAS is used at corporate level) so I necessarily have to have a daily incremental backup.
Since Commvault has not developed an agent for QNAP, I am forced to use a Linux or Windows VM as a bridge to perform backups.

I have already consulted the official documentation but I have not had any success.
Is it possible to get some suggestions from you?

Thank you all!

Hello,

Good day.

To back up your QNAP NAS shares using Commvault, you can map the NAS shares as CIFS shares to a Windows VM and use the Windows File System Agent for backup. Here are the steps to set this up:

1. Map the QNAP NAS as a Network Drive on Windows VM: Ensure that the QNAP NAS shares are accessible from the Windows VM by mapping them as network drives.
2. Install the Windows File System Agent on the VM: Install Commvault's Windows File System Agent on the VM where the NAS shares are mapped.
3. Configure the Backup: Set up the backup in Commvault to include the mapped drives. You can configure incremental backups to run daily.

For more detailed guidance, refer to the documentation on

Regards,

Wasim

Hello I am trying to do the same but a restore using Commvault Tape to Qnap NAS

Regarding the VM what type of hardware is recommended? also what is recommended amount of memory should be allocated to VM to insure fastest speed of restore.
