If the data is deduplicated, there is no expectation of reclaiming physical disk space when a job hits retention. A block of baseline data saved in physical storage will be kept until every job that references that block ages. Only then when it is no longer referenced will the baseline block be released from physical storage.
If you lower retention and run data aging, any jobs that meet retention at the time of data aging will be logically aged deduplicated or not.
